Born, and grew up, in Namibia – mainly in a very small town with the name of Kamanjab, situated in the North-Western part of the Country. My grandfather had a farm about 40 km from town, at which I’ve spent most of my school holidays. Since my young years I have had a particular fondness for knives, as it was an essential tool for everyday use in our lives. I still have my very first fixed blade (made in Germany), which I got when I was about 10 years old. Hunting was an important part of the Namibian farm life, for which a fixed blade was a must.
When I was about 14 years old my grandfather made a pocketknife using the steel of a garden spade for the blade, and Mopanie wood for the handle. I was amazed to realize that knives do not necessarily come from factories.
During the “Covid Lockdown Easter Weekend” of 2020, I started making the first folder under the guidance of Jaco de Kock, a dear knife maker friend of mine. I sincerely thank the Lord for His grace, for enabling me to keep myself busy doing something that I have such an affection for.
After perfecting my skills, I became in 2023 a full fledged guild member of the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Afrika.
